GRONE, Minnie

1875 - 1962

Alice Herminie Gröne was born at Colchester, Essex on 5 June 1875, daughter of Ferdinand Emilius Grone and is wife Elizabeth née Pierce (1848-24 September 1901), who married at Newport, Isle of Wight in 1874. As Minnie Grone, a member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1894-1895 and exhibited from Wellesley Road, Colchester in 1895, three watercolours 'A Cloudy Day, Walton on the Naze', 'The Colne Valley' and 'The Coming in of the Tide' and in 1896 four watercolours 'The Lock, Bures', 'Brightstone, Isle of Wight', 'The Morning Meal' and 'The Willowy Stream' but does not seem to have exhibited again. She also exhibited at the Chelmsford Art Society in 1894 a watercolour, 'The Old Windmill, Greenstead'. In 1911, Minnie was a 36-year-old teacher in her father's school at Wellesley Road, Colchester and by 1939, a retired schoolteacher, living at Lordship Lane, Camberwell, London. Alice Herminie Gröne died at Rosslyn Nursing Home, Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire on 10 December 1962, aged 87, she was unmarried.
