DAY, William Charles
William Charles Day was born at Ipswich on 10 September 1896 and baptised at St Matthew's church on 16 December 1896, son of Charles Day (1865-1921), a house painter, and his wife Elizabeth née Cooper (1864-1940), who married at Bosmere, Suffolk in 1889. In 1911, William was a 14-year-old baker's boy, living at 19 Waterloo Road, Ipswich with his parents 45-year-old Charles and 46-year-old Elizabeth, with three of his four sibling sisters, Edith 17, Florence 12 and Ada 10, all born in Ipswich. William married at Ipswich in 1921, Beatrice May Abbott (24 October 1897-1971) and in 1939, a coal porter, living at 2-4 Castle Street, Ipswich with his wife Beatrice and two daughters, Doris May and Jean. A member of the Ipswich Art Club 1929-1936, his exhibits included in 1927 from 63 Hervey Street, Ipswich, an oil 'Portrait' and a watercolour 'Self Portrait' and in 1933, two oils 'Caledonian Market' and a 'Self Portrait' and two watercolours 'Carting' and 'Old Cart'. William Charles Day died at Ipswich in 1983.
