CORDER, Eleanor Mary

1870 - 1948

Eleanor Mary Corder was born at Ipswich on 17 December 1870 and baptised at St Margaret's church, Ipswich on 23 January 1871, daughter of Frederick Corder (25 December 1818-26 January 1908), silk mercer of Ipswich, and his second wife Maria Morris (1842-21 June 1930), youngest daughter of the late Thomas Morris, architect of Reading, who married at St Mary the Virgin, Winchester on 24 February 1870, Eleanor was the step-sister of John Shewell Corder. A member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1889-1890 but does not seem to have exhibited. In 1901, Eleanor was a 30-year-old, living at Royston House, Westerfield Road, Ipswich with her parents, 82-year-old Frederick and 58-year-old Maria and Frederick's five other children, including John Shewell Corder. Her father, who was born at Widford Hall, Essex in 1818, died at Ipswich in 1908, when Eleanor and her mother moved to Finndale, Grundisburgh, near Ipswich. By 1921 Eleanor and her mother had moved to Heatherside, Clifton Road, Parkstone, Poole, Dorset and in 1939 Eleanor was living with her brother Bernard Corder and his wife at 'Sea Breeze', Spur Hill Avenue, Poole. Eleanor Mary Corder was still living at Poole when she died at 4 Cambridge Road, Bournemouth on 17 July 1948, aged 77, she was unmarried and left over £42,500.
