Frederick Boyd Waters

Frederick Boyd Waters was born at Guelph, Ontario, Canada on 7 October 1879, eldest son of Frederick Waters and his wife Emily née Lacy. Frederick and Emily were both from England but had met and married in Canada. The family lived in Stratford, Ontario for some time where Boyd's father owned and operated a picture framing and stationery business. Sometime just before 1901, the family moved to Winnipeg where Boyd's brother Horace, had a job with the railroad and was killed on the railway in 1906, after which Frederick and his parents came to England but they do not seem to have been in England by 1911. In 1915, Waters was serving in the London Regiment 2/28th Battalion and in 1920 was living Fore Place, Beaminster, Dorset. He married at Weymouth, Dorset in 1921, Mildred Jessie Burt (7 April 1884-14 February 1971). A painter of miniature portraits, still life and landscapes and exhibited at the Royal Academy. In 1939, an artist painter, living at Dawlish House, Victoria Avenue, Weymouth, Dorset with his wife Mildred Jessie and was a member and exhibitor at the Ipswich Art Club 1945-1955, exhibiting from 45 Vesper Road, Leeds in 1944 an oil, 'Roses and Silver Ball' and three miniatures flower pictures, in 1945 several works including three miniature flower paintings, 'Daisies and China Bowl', 'Polyanthus, Rhododendrons and Venetian Glass' and 'Auriculas and Primroses', in 1946 'Azaleas', 'Flowers', 'Roses' and a further three miniature flower paintings. In 1948 he exhibited from 125 Main Street, Keswick two 'Flower' paintings and 'Chrysanthemums' and in 1951, from 'Kirket Nook', Wilberstack, Grange-over-Sands, Lancashire another series of miniature floral works and his last exhibits were from Belmount, Outgate, Ambleside, Westmorland in 1955. Also, a member of the Royal Society of Miniature Painters but does not seem to have been a prolific painter in Canada, with most of his work being done in England. Frederick Boyd Waters died at Hawkshead, Cumbria in 1967, aged 87, his death is registered at Ulverston, Lancashire. His name is sometimes hyphenated as Boyd-Waters and was also known as Boyd Waters.
