Nigel Temple

Nigel Hal Longdale Temple was born at Lowestoft, Suffolk on 21 January 1926, youngest son of Sydney Temple (2 January 1884-7 January 1956) and his wife Honor May née Tucker (14 May 1894-19 August 1976), who married at St John's Church, Glastonbury, Somerset on 23 December 1917 and in 1939 were guest house proprietors at 60-61 West Street, Farnham, Surrey. Nigel studied at Farnham School of Art 1948-1952, receiving his teacher's national diploma in design and art from Sheffield College of Art 1952-1953 and took a master's degree in architecture from the University of Bristol 1978 and doctorate at Keele in 1985. After serving in the Royal Air Force 1944-1948 and five years as an art student, he became a lecturer on art and education 1953-1978, having an artist in residence secondment at the University of Bristol 1978-1979. He married in Surrey in 1955, Judith Mary Tattersill (1933-23 April 2014), and they had one son and one daughter. Artist, photographer, lecturer, and author he had a series of solo exhibitions in the provinces including the Royal West of England Academy, also showing with the Cheltenham Group and on the continent. His books include 'Farnham Inheritance' (1956) and 'John Nash and the Village Picturesque' (1973). Nigel Hal Longdale Temple lived at Cheltenham, Gloucestershire where he died on 4 November 2003.
