SPRUYTENBURG, Margery
As Margery Bevan, she was born at Pontefract, Yorkshire on 11 January 1895, daughter of William Charles Bevan, a plumber & tinner, and his wife Martha née Borwell, who married at Holbeck, Yorkshire in 1894. In 1911, Margery was a 16-year-old, living at 60 West Street, Bridlington, Yorkshire with her parents, 48-year-old William Charles, born at Bishops Castle, Shropshire and 48-year-old Martha, born at Whaplade, Lincoln, and sibling brother Edwin Charles 8, born at Bridlington. Margery married at Bridlington in 1919, Hendrik Spruytenburg (25 August 1889-11 June 1978), a food distributor, and they moved to 'Pinetoft', Rushmere, near Ipswich. An amateur painter and a member of Ipswich Art Club 1938-1942 from 'The Ride', Little Bealings, near Ipswich but does not seem to have exhibited. In 1939, living at The Ride, Little Bealings with her husband, a manager of a food distributor. Margery Spruytenburg was of The Ride, Little Bealings, when she died at the East Suffolk & Ipswich Hospital on 28 July 1942, aged 47. Their 21-year-old son, Richard Frederick Spruytenburg, was drowned in 1942 when his ship HMS Airedale was sunk in the Eastern Mediterranean in the defence of Malta.
