MAYER, Eric
Eric Mayer was born at 41 Richmond Street, Wigan, Lancashire on 12 June 1903, son of James Mayer (1877-1937), a clothier & tailor, and his wife Elizabeth née Warburton (1877-1924), who married at Ashton-under-Lyne in 1902. Eric was educated at Wigan Grammar School and studied at Manchester School of Art 1920-1927 gaining his art teacher's diploma. Eric married in 1929, Olive Busby (28 November 1903-1999), and they had two children, Anthony Hugh Mayer (1932-1995), the noted film director, journalist and artist, and a daughter. In 1939, Olive Mayer was living at 5 Tye Terrace, Deudraeth, Merionethshire with Eric living at 265 Park Lane, Macclesfield, Cheshire when he was headmaster of Manchester Junior School of Art, a position he held until 1949 when he took the position as principal at Ipswich School of Art when they lived at The Limes, Rushmere St Andrew, Ipswich. An interior designer and teacher and exhibited at Manchester Spring Exhibition and was a member at Ipswich Art Club 1950-1956. Eric Mayer died at Puttocks, East End, Stonham Aspal, Stowmarket, Suffolk on 14 January 1971.
