MacFARLANE, Emily

1975 - 1995

Emily Jane MacFarlane was born at Lambeth, London on 17 August 1975, her mother's maiden name was Hughes. A draughtsman, painter, and printmaker, who spent most of her childhood in Cumbria before her family moved to Felixstowe, Suffolk. Emily studied at Ipswich School of Art where she was noted for her ability, commitment, and views. 19-year-old Emily was one of the three crew members that drowned at Rump Point, off Padstow, Cornwall when the newly restored 'Maria Asumpta' sailing vessel foundered on 30 May 1995, the two other drowned were 50-year-old Ann Taylor of Wallingford, Oxfordshire and 24-year-old John Shannon of Queensland, Australia. A memorial exhibition of her work was held at Artworks East Studio, Felixstowe in 1995.
