LEWCOCK, Henry Closson
Henry Closson Lewcock was born at Ipswich on 13 February 1882, second son of Edward Borrett Lewcock (1843-12 October 1915), a ship broker, and his wife Elizabeth née Closson (1850-10 July 1932), who married at Ipswich in 1876. In 1889, Henry was admitted a pupil at the Ipswich Municipal Secondary School and in 1881, a 9-year-old, living at 98 Fore Street, Ipswich with his parents, 43-year-old Edward and 38-year-old Elizabeth, with three siblings, Edward 13, Ethel Winifred 6 and Edith Alice 4. He commenced his working career as a woollen draper in Ipswich and married at Leeds in 1910, Kathleen Mary Lewcock, née Hindle. In 1911, Henry was a 29-year-old warehouseman, living at 35 Mexborough Drive, Chapeltown Road, Leeds with his 28-year-old wife Kathleen but by 1915 had returned to Ipswich when their only child, Mary, was born. In 1926 Henry, now a partner in Lewcock & Pemberton, ship brokers at Princes Street, Ipswich, was living with his wife and daughter at 9 Marlborough Road, Ipswich. Henry was an honorary member of the Ipswich Art Club 1932-1966 but does not seem to have exhibited. In 1939, a director of a wholesale clothing company, living at 16 Tuddenham Road, Ipswich with his wife Kathleen. Henry Closson Lewcock died at 16 Tuddenham Road, Ipswich on 14 May 1971.
