As Gillian Black, she was born in London on 25 November 1930, daughter of Albert Edward Black (7 April 1897-2 May 1951), a thermometer & scientific instrument maker, and his wife Grace Mary née Seeley (30 June 1894-1990), who married at Islington in 1926 and in 1939 were living at 22 Uphill Grove, Hendon, London. Gill studied at Hornsey College of Art under Jesse Dale Cast (1900-1976). She married at Battle, Sussex in 1956, artist David Green [q.v.] and works under the name of Gill Green and in 1990 they moved to Suffolk. Gill has exhibited widely with her husband, including Heffers in Cambridge; Century Gallery, Henley on Thames; Rye Art Gallery; 44 Gallery in Aldeburgh, Suffolk and at Wigmore Hall.
