BOWMAN, Edmund

1845 - 1891

Edmund Bowman was born at St Ann’s Lane, London in 1845, but baptised at St Mary at Quay, Ipswich on 25 July 1845, son of Revd Edmund Burkitt Bowman, B.A. (6 March 1816-19 January 1903), a schoolmaster, and his wife Harriet née Edwards, both Suffolk born, who married at St Margaret's Church, Ipswich on 30 December 1841. In 1871, young Edmund was a 26-year-old painter (artist), living with his uncle Wray Palliser Lamb (1812-1890), a printer & engraver, at 14 St Margaret’s Street, Ipswich. Edmund married at Ipswich the following year, Emma Lambert (1848-1932) and he seems to have given up being an artist as in 1881, a 35-year-old letter carrier, living at 35 William Street, Ipswich with his 33 year old wife Emma, born Copdock, near Ipswich and their three children, Annie 4, May 2 and newly born Edmund, all born at Ipswich. Edmund Bowman died at Ipswich in 1891, aged 45.
