TREVELYAN, Lady Laura
As Laura Capel Lofft, she was born at Troston, Suffolk on 27 July 1804 and baptised at St Mary Church, Troston on 17 August 1804, second child of Capel Lofft (20 November 1752-25 May 1824), a member of Lincoln's Inn, and his second wife Sarah Watson née Finch (1780-11 July 1855), who married at St Benedict's Church, Cambridge on 10 March 1802, his first wife was Anne née Emblin (February 1753-8 September 1801), who married on 28 August 1778 and had issue as Laura's step-family. Laura's elder sister was Sarah Capel (born 12 June 1803) and younger brother Capel Lofft (19 February 1806–1 October 1873). Laura was brought up in Italy and married at Pakenham, Suffolk on 11 July 1867, Sir Walter Calverley Trevelyan (31 March 1797-23 March 1879), whose first wife was Lady Pauline Trevelyan. Laura Capel Lofft had been a childhood friend of Pauline who came to Wallington as her companion and carer. Her small portrait by an unpractised artist shows the sitter at work on a mural decoration and is in the National Portrait Gallery (NPG 1828a). Laura Trevelyan died, ten days after her husband, at Wallington, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland on 2 April 1879, aged 74 and the executor and beneficiary to her estate was her nephew, Robert Emlyn Lofft of Troston, Bury St Edmund's.
In the 'Life of James Ferguson' (2010) pp 13 in a letter from Lofft's daughter by his first marriage gives Capel Lofft as being born in London on 20 November 1752 and died at Montcaliere, Turin on 25 May 1824
