BAKER, Lorina

1867 - 1942

As Lorina Hartley, she was born at Beccles, Suffolk on 23 October and baptised at St Michael's church, Beccles on 22 November 1867, daughter of Revd Alfred Octavius Hartley (28 February 1826-27 November 1888), principal of Fauconberge Grammar School, Beccles, and his second wife Ann[e] née Knubley (14 February 1827-), who married at Kendall, Westmorland in 1860, Alfred had previously married at Wangford, Suffolk, Lorina Carthew Dashwood (1835-1859) and Ann, as Ann Jefferson had previously married Miles Ponsonby Knubley (1826-1858) in 1849. In 1871, Lorina was a 3 year old, living at Vicarage House, Steeple Ashton, Wiltshire with her parents, 45 year old Alfred and 44 year old Ann, with siblings Henry A. 8, Charles 6, and step-sister Elizabeth Knubley 17. Lorina married at Kensington, London in 1897, Bernard Granville Baker and in 1911 she was living at 1 Wellington House, Marylebone, London, her husband, who was an army officer, was absent. Lorina, as Mrs B. Granville Baker, was a member of the Ipswich Art Club 1928-1932 and her husband a member 1928-1957, both from St Mary's Road, Beccles, Suffolk. Lorina died at Cage Street, St Mary's Road, Beccles on 10 September 1942, aged 75.
