BARNARD, Dorothy May

1899 - 2000

As Dorothy May Underwood, she was born at 15 Bolton Lane, Ipswich on 13 January 1899, daughter of Ernest Underwood, leather merchant & boot manufacturer, and his wife Laura. In 1901, a 2 year old living at 15 Bolton Lane, with her parents 27 year old Ernest and 28 year old Laura, born Swaffham Bulbeck, Cambridgeshire but by 1911 they had moved to 72 Constable Road, Ipswich. Dorothy married at Ipswich in 1922, Russell Thomas Barnard (1887-1961) and painted under the name of Dorothy Barnard. A member of the Ipswich Art Club 1973-1977+ and exhibited from 284 Tuddenham Road, Ipswich in 1973 three pictures, two pastels 'Ruth' and 'Xmas Roses' and a watercolour 'Vivia' and the following year exhibited two watercolours 'Wherstead Church' and 'Wallflowers'. She was still at the same address in 1977 when she exhibited a portrait 'Mrs Geoffrey Barnard'. She died at Ipswich on 30 July 2000.
