CHRISTOPHERSON, Ethel Kate

1868 - 1960

As Ethel Kate Hill, she was born at Kingston-on-Thames, Surrey on 2 June 1868, youngest child of Henry Thomas Hill (1825-6 July 1892), an accountant, and his wife Catherine née Applegath (4 May 1828-8 May 1924), who married at Holy Trinity Dartford, Kent on 24 August 1852. In 1881, Ethel was a 12-year-old living at 'Silverdale', 2 Surbiton Road, Kingston with her parents, 55-year-old Thomas and 52-year-old Catherine, with her four siblings, Alice Mary 25 who was born in South America, Dora Louisa 21, Mansfield 19 and Henry Pincott 15. Ethel married at Kingston in 1897, Alan Ross Christopherson (29 November 1867-24 September 1941) and in 1911, a 42-year-old, living at 59 Abbeygate Street, Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk with her 43-year-old husband, a branch secretary. By 1933 they had moved to Ipswich but in 1939 were on a visit to Alan's brother's home at Lupton House, Sedbergh, Yorkshire. As Mrs. A. R. Christopherson, she exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club from 27 Tuddenham Road, Ipswich in 1933, two works 'Woodbury Common' and 'Hatford Mill' and was still a member of the Ipswich Art Club in 1942 when of 136 Henley Road, Ipswich. Ethel Kate Christopherson was of The Gowans, Highfield Road, Sedburgh, Yorkshire when she died at The Royal Lancaster Infirmary on 18 February 1960, aged 91.
