PENNEFATHER, Thomasina Cox
As Thomasina Cox Savory, she was born at Peckham Rye, Surrey on 12 December 1845, youngest daughter of Thomas Cox Savory (16 February 1807-16 January 1846), gold and silversmith, and his wife Catharine née Hargrave (1816-1875), who married at Devonshire House, Wandsworth, London on 17 November 1831, when his wife was aged only 16, and they lived at Peckham Rye Common, Camberwell. Thomasina's father died in 1846, leaving five children and an estate of £35,000, and in 1851, Thomasina was a 5-year-old and, together with two elder sisters, living at Stamford Hill, Hackney, London, the home of her two unmarried aunts, 36-year-old Caroline Mary Savory and 34-year-old Emma. Sina, as she was known, married at Ridge Parish Church, Kent on 9 May 1867, Alfred Richard Pennefather (16 March 1845-15 August 1918) and they went to live at Little Waltham Hall, Essex. As Mrs. A. R. Pennefather, a member of the Ipswich Art Club 1891-1896 and exhibited from 7 Cheniston Gardens, Kensington in 1891 two watercolours, 'Pecheuses des Crevettes, Boulogne' and 'On the Rocks when the Tide is Low'. In 1901, Thomasina was a 56-year-old, living at 33 Carlisle Place, St George Hanover Square, London with two servants when her 56-year-old husband Alfred, receiver for the metropolitan police, was living at Little Waltham Hall, Chelmsford, Essex and the situation was the same in 1911. Her husband Sir Alfred, who had been knighted on 23 December 1909, died at Little Waltham Hall in 1918, aged 73, leaving his estate to his wife. Lady Thomasina Cox Pennefather died at 52 Tufton Street, Hanover Square, Westminster, London on 14 March 1920, aged 74, they had no issue.
