FOX, Ambrose Abbott
Ambrose Abbott Fox was born at Gresham, Holt, Norfolk on 12 August 1898, one of the five children of Ambrose Horatio Fox (25 March 1865-9 September 1922), a cabinet maker & house furnisher, and his wife Alice Marian née Abbott (1865-15 January 1934), who married at Aylsham, Norfolk on 26 November 1890. Ambrose was educated at Leighton House School, Cromer and in 1911, a 12-year-old, living at La Maisonette, Cabbell Road, Cromer, Norfolk with his parents, 46-year-old Ambrose and 45-year-old Alice and four siblings, Marion 18, Margaret Alice 16, Robin Benet 7 and John Winston 2, all born in Norfolk. Ambrose was an officer in the Royal Air Force 1912-1920 and was a draughtsman when he married at Ipswich in 1926, Constance Ida Warren (27 December 1900-31 July 1989) and in 1939, a mechanical engineer, living at 6 Sidegate Lane, Ipswich with his wife Constance. A member of the Ipswich Art Club 1948-1964 and exhibited from Gresham, 6 Sidegate Lane, Ipswich in 1947, watercolours 'By Sproughton Mill', in 1948 'Ebb Tide on the Orwell' and 'Farm Scene, Orwell', in 1949 'Storm over Thirlmere Lake' and 'Springtime at Sproughton' and in 1950 'Judith' and a charcoal 'Head Study' with his last exhibit in 1954 when he had another watercolour on show 'Rackham's Mill'. Ambrose Abbott Fox died at 6 Sidegate Lane, Ipswich on 11 April 1965, aged 66.
