Krysia Nowak

Krysia Dantuta Michna-Nowak, also known as Krysia Nowak, was born at Halesworth, Suffolk on 18 March 1948, eldest of the two daughters of Wladyslaw Jan Nowak (11 June 1908-11 February 1982) and his second wife Henryka née Michna (-18 March 1994), who married at Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire in 1947. Krysia was educated at Notre Dame High School, Sheffield and the Henry Hartland Grammar School, Worksop and studied at Ealing College, under Marian Bohusz-Szyszko (1901-1995) and Marek Zulawski (1908-1985) graduating with a B.A. in the History of Art, French and Spanish in 1970, and at Garnett College for a post-graduate certificate of education. A professional artist painter and designer and was art education officer for Sheffield City Art Galleries 1975-1987, the following year exhibition organiser for Salama-Caro Gallery in Cork Street, London and was company secretary for Sorttorama of Hertfordshire 1989-1990 before becoming a design consultant and interior designer in 1991. Krysia is now one of the most respected contemporary artists in the UK, specialising in commissioned portraits and paintings for home or workplace. Her solo shows include Drian Galleries; Waterloo Gallery in Stoke-on-Trent; Crucible Theatre and the University Gallery, both in Sheffield; Thomas Plunkett Fine Art, St Albans; St Raphael Gallery and Boxfield Gallery at Stevenage Arts & Leisure Centre also exhibiting in France, including Nice Airport. She is now based at 309 Wedon Way, Baldock, Hertfordshire where she lives with her partner Jagdish Chander Sondhi. Krysia is the author of a book of poetry 'From the Basement of my Heart' (2017) and a biography of her father 'Squadron Leader Wladyslaw Jan Nowak' (2012).
